SRH Law Attorney Nico Lustig will be participating in a panel at the Slow Living Summit on June 9th at 1 pm eastern. The virtual Slow Living Summit is taking place over the course of several days from June 4th to June 12th, during which participants will address topics that make connections between food, agriculture, environment, climate change, and social justice.
As a presenter for the Slow Living Summit, Nico will be contributing to a panel on strategies than can be utilized to finance farming activities. Joined by Vermont farmers and academics exploring regenerative agriculture enterprises, Nico will discuss how farmers and food producers can use the law, innovative business models, and financing opportunities to support and sustain farm and food businesses that create equitable and democratic food systems. You can register for the Slow Living Summit and the Financing Farming panel event here.
Nico will also be presenting at the Vermont Employee Ownership Center’s (VEOC) Hot Topics for Worker Co-ops Webinar on June 11th at 3pm. Her presentation is part of an all-day series being sponsored by VEOC for workers and businesses interested in cooperative ownership. Nico will co-lead, with Joe Maraffino of the Democracy at Work Institute, a discussion focused on current trends in worker-owned businesses and to answer questions from worker co-op members submitted in advance and during the session. Nico’s presentations at the Slow Living Summit and VEOC webinar highlight her extensive professional experience with sustainable agriculture, food business development, and cooperatives. Before becoming an attorney, Nico worked on organic farms, and as a manager of two robust natural food cooperatives where she oversaw the businesses’ financial and human resources needs. She also worked as a food-business development consultant for a regional community development corporation. Now, Nico’s legal practice focuses on sustainable community and economic development. Nico is also a fellow with the Sustainable Economies Law Center.
