Mark has over 35 years of business and transactional legal experience and works with a wide range of clients including for-profit businesses, nonprofit corporations, housing and land trusts, cooperatives, individuals, and quasi-governmental and municipal entities.
Mark approaches each matter he works on from both a legal and a business perspective. He works collaboratively with his clients to understand their objectives and craft cost-effective solutions to achieve those goals—whether it is putting together a real estate closing, creating a contract for a socially responsible business, or helping creative entrepreneurs start a new venture.
In each transaction Mark uses his informed perspective to map out the deal, negotiate potential issues with counter-parties, and address foreseeable issues in advance—before they become problems. He enjoys working on the details of contracts and agreements and takes great satisfaction in helping his clients understand and successfully navigate the nuances of each deal.
In addition to his many traditional business clients, Mark also works closely with numerous mission-driven businesses and nonprofits, helping ensure that their objectives and values are addressed in each legal matter they confront.
Mark began his career in a large national firm in Washington, D.C., before seeing the light and moving to Vermont in 1989. He joined the firm in 2004 after having spent 15 years in private practice with another firm in Burlington.
